Call for applications are invited by Ted Hollis Scholarship in Wetland Hydrology and Conservation. The UCL Department of Geography seeks applicants for this scholarship.
This Scholarship is a lifelong tribute to Dr G.E. (Ted) Hollis, which has been made possible with the efforts in the form of donations by his friends, colleagues and former students throughout the world. Ted was a member of academic staff within the Department of Geography between 1971 and died in 1996. During his tenure, he did pioneering research in the field of the hydrology, management and conservation of wetland ecosystems.
The Scholarship is especially for overseas students, preferably from less developed countries, who are academically exceptional and would otherwise be unable to study at one of Britain’s eminent universities. The Scholarship will support a post-graduate student undertaking research leading to a PhD. It is intended that the successful candidate will join the Department from the beginning of the 2012/13 session (September 2012).
The duration of the Scholarship will in the first instance be three years and is subject to an annual review of progress. There is the possibility of an extension of the period of funding for a further six months. The Scholarship will provide tuition fees, plus a student stipend of £15,590. Additional financial support is available for fieldwork expenses, equipment, data and other research expenses.
Applicants for the Hollis Scholarship should be devoted to enhance the scientific understanding of wetland functioning and the cause of wetland conservation. They should normally hold, or expect to hold by September 2012, a first or upper second-class honours degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard from a recognized higher education institute (details of qualification equivalencies are available on the country pages of the UCL International Students website). Applicants must also meet the UCL English language proficiency requirements for graduate study.
The closing date for applications is 8 June, 2012.
