The University of London International Program is known for awarding degrees by distance learning. The university has over 50,000 students and is currently seeking applications for scholarships to study the LLB degree by distance learning in Uganda. The LLB degree is valued by private enterprises in Uganda and across the world. Students completing this degree program can start their career as a solicitor or barrister, police force, banking, international trade, etc.
About the Scholarship
The University of London International Programmes is awarding scholarships to study for a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) by distance learning in Uganda. The university is looking for outstanding students who have the academic ability and desire to study law, but may struggle to fund their studies without a scholarship.
There are up to five scholarships on offer for students in Uganda in the 2011-12 academic year, covering all student registration and exam fees. All applicants have to meet minimum entry requirements for the LLB degree and be long-term residents of Uganda.
Eligibility Conditions
Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit but preference will be given to those who can’t afford to study for a prestigious qualification, or those who have not previously had the opportunity to obtain an undergraduate degree. All applicants have to meet minimum entry requirements for the LLB degree, which are outlined on the reverse of this page. The scholarships are only open to long-term residents of Uganda.
Scholarship Value
The value is approximately £3,500, assuming you complete your degree in three years. The scholarship covers the total registration and examination fees charged by the University of London International Programmes. The scholarship is available for the normal period of study plus one year, subject to your continuing satisfactory academic progress, which will be reviewed each August.
Note: To take exams, you will have to pay a fee to the exam centre in Kampala. You will also have to pay additional fees if you wish to receive support from a local teaching institution. You may also have to buy some of your own textbooks.
Selection Process
Candidates for the scholarship will be shortlisted based on their academic qualifications and the quality and content of a personal statement explaining why they deserve this scholarship. This statement should outline your career plans, describe how the scholarship will make a difference to your life, and highlight any challenges you have already overcome in achieving your school qualifications. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in Uganda by members of the Laws Programme scholarships awards panel in early September 2011.
Applicants are required to demonstrate a certain level of competence in English.
The last date for submitting the applications is August 22, 2011 for the students wishing to start their studies in October 2011. If you plan to start your studies in October 2012, the deadline for scholarship applications is 13 August 2012.
