Wageningen UR Center for Development Innovation (CDI) will conduct short term course “Climate Change adaptation in agriculture and natural resource management” from 1-12 February 2016 in Uganda. Interested eligible applicants from NFP countries (national of NFP country and working in an NFP country) are invited to apply for both Netherland fellowships as well as the short course to secure seats to participate. The focus of this course is the translation of the policy documents and research into climate-smart adaptation strategies. Participants with an interest to take climate change adaptation further than the paper these policies are written on, are encouraged to apply.
Training approach: interactive, with plenary and group work, study assignments, case studies, role-plays and fieldwork
Upon completion of the course participants will
- Have a better understanding of climate change, its causes, risks and implications for food security, agriculture and natural resource management.
- Know concepts for adaptation and mitigation.
- Understand climate-smart agriculture and natural resource management.
- Be familiar with vulnerability assessment, coping strategies and sustainable development processes.
- Understand competing claims, indigenous knowledge, conflict management and advocacy in climate change.
- Be able to integrate climate change issues into existing policy processes and rural development strategies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be citizen of an NFP country and employed in an NFP country to be eligible for Netherlands
- Applicants should have at least a BSc-level (or equivalent) and a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in a relevant field like policy development in agriculture, natural resource management or sustainable development.
- Applications from students will not be taken into consideration.
- Competence in the English language is required.
- If application is being made for more than one short course, one need to submit an NFP Fellowship application for each course separately.
