The Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation (CDI) invites applications from individuals belonging to the countries supported by Netherlands Fellowship Program to apply for the short course entitled Lost harvest and wasted food: Managing the crop supply chain for increased food security to be held from 14025 September 2015 in the Netherlands. The interactive short course includes lectures, discussions, group work and field trips.
The course will look at ways to minimize losses, reduce food waste and explore alternative uses; and critically analyze the supply chain, and design sustainable alternatives with special attention to harvest practices, storage, spoilage and food waste management.
Upon completion of the course, the participants will
- Understand the link between primary production, post-harvest management, the supply chain and food security.
- Be familiar with alternative uses of food waste.
- Have insight in the public and private responsibilities in the supply chain for post-harvest handling and food waste management.
- Be able to design solutions for minimizing the amount of ‘missing food’, from smallholders to multinational retailers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must have active interest and professional experience in this field.
- Applicants must be in the position to make a change – managers, policy makers, specialists and senior technical staff who are professionally involved in the crop supply chain and deal with post-harvest and food waste management.
