PWESCR (Programme on Women’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights), an international human rights organization based in the Global South, is currently accepting applications for its annual leadership development programme, “Leadership Institute in Women’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.”
PWESCR is aimed at promoting ESCR by bringing a gender framework to policy, law and practice at local, national, regional and international levels.
This Leadership institute is an opportunity for women’s rights leaders (men and women) working in organizations from the economic South. The institute is uniquely designed for economic and social justice activists and human rights practitioners working on women’s rights in key leadership positions in organizations/institutions to effectively use the human rights framework to drive change, addressing structural causes of poverty, discrimination and inequalities.
Goals
- To develop a core group of leaders in the economic South to advance women’s human rights from the local to the global level;
- To help shape the emergence of a women’s economic, social and cultural rights paradigm and movement by the formation of a Collective.
When and where the Institute will be held?
The Institute will be held in two phases. A weeklong training will be followed six months later with a weeklong follow-up session. All selected participants should attend both of them:
- Phase 1: January 22 – 28, 2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal
- Phase 2: June 25 – 30, 2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Scholarships
There are limited scholarships available to cover registration fee and travel related expenses. The scholarships have been made possible with the support of EED and Cordaid. Participants who are selected are encouraged to source their own funding.
