The Swedish International Development Agency’s (SIDA) International Training Programme (ITP) is organizing the training on ‘Intellectual Property for Least Developed Countries.’ The Part 1 of this training will be held from November 18 – December 6, 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden and the Part 2 will be held from May 12-16 in one of the participating countries.
Invitation
The importance of intellectual property rights has increased considerably in recent years and this branch of law has become an issue of great political and economic significance in international negotiations, especially after the establishment of the World Trade Organization. While the issue is important, it is also complex and the repercussions of various solutions are not easy to grasp. Considerable knowledge and experience is therefore necessary in order to fully understand and successfully participate in the international negotiations where the outcome may affect both national economies and international trade relations. For many developing countries this poses considerable challenges.
Objectives
- To enhance the participants understanding of intellectual property rights with emphasis on their contribution for economic growth, trade, and development, thus increasing their ability to handle, address, and deal with those issues at the national, sub-regional, and regional levels as well as in the international context with a view to build consensus and promote international cooperation.
- Understanding of the consequences for economic growth where lack of enforced legislation on intellectual property rights exist.
Target Group
- Participants from least developed countries.
- Policy-makers and their advisers as well as persons at a senior decision-making level from the government sector and also persons from the university or the private sector who are or who will be involved in issues concerning intellectual property rights.
Closing date for applications: August 18, 2013
