The UN-Habitat Urban Youth Fund helps youth in developing countries equip with employable skills and opportunities. To do so, the Fund provides up to USD 25,000 grants support and capacity building to youth-led projects in urban areas. The projects may be piloting innovative approaches to employment, good urban governance, shelter and secure tenure; and capacity building support may be in the form of training, mentorship and e-learning programs.
Projects encouraging gender equality or involving partnerships with the government or the private sector are particularly encouraged. Each year the Fund selects up to 30 organizations for grants and capacity building support. Grant calls are made during early months of the year.
Support Types
- Grant up to USD 25,000 to implement projects.
- Training, mentorship and the E- Learning programs for capacity building of organizations/staff.
Highlights
- Mentorship to help yout-led organizations become active citizens in their communities and bring about global change. Mentors are selected through a call.
- E-learning Program seeks to integrate the mobile technology, internet‐based curriculum and applied empirical learning to provide a dynamic learning opportunity for youth in the developing world.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants organizations must be led by young people aged 15-32 years and be based in cities or towns in developing countries.
- Applicants can be working on any sector varying from technology and agriculture to education and poverty reduction.
- Applications must be made for new and innovative ideas and solutions for job creation, good governance, adequate shelter and secure tenure planned and implemented by youth-led groups.
