Deadline: 18 November 2015
USAID’s Global Development Alliance is a particular type of public-private partnership whereby USAID works with the private sector to tackle important business challenges and development problems – in a replicable, sustainable and scalable manner.
Partnership is the key for development and NGOs seeking grants under this program are encouraged to mobilize partnership with the private sector.
Potential partners of Global Development Alliances can be non-profit organizations, government organizations or companies that either primarily/directly work to improve the social and economic conditions of people in developing countries, or contribute to this mission as a social responsibility. For example, the USAID has partnered with Coca-Cola company for its clean water project. As a result, more than a quarter of a million people now have access to clean water.
Potential alliance partners are expected to bring significant new resources, ideas, technologies, and/or partners to development activities. Successful proposals will mobilize private sector contributions, both cash and in-kind resources, on at least a one-to-one basis.
GDAs are co-designed, co-funded, and co-managed by all partners involved, so that the risks, responsibilities, and rewards of partnership are shared. A partnership is considered a GDA when it meets the following criteria
- At least 1:1 leverage (cash and in-kind) of USAID resources;
- Common goals defined for all partners.
- Jointly-defined solution to a social or economic development problem.
- Non-traditional resource partners (companies, foundations, etc.).
- Shared resources, risks and results.
- Innovative, sustainable approaches to development.
Eligibility Criteria
- Potential alliance partners are –
- Non-profits – foundations, national and international non-governmental organizations [NGOs], regional and international organizations, U.S. colleges and universities, Diaspora organizations, public figures, and advocacy groups.
