The Humanitarian Innovation Fund has launched an ambitious program to stimulate innovation in WASH. It seeks to use new innovation management approaches to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by emergency WASH practitioners working in humanitarian crises globally.
The HIF is a landmark grant-making fund to support organizations working in countries and regions facing humanitarian challenges, such as Haiti, Pakistan and East Africa, to develop, test and share new technologies, products and processes that will make humanitarian aid more effective and cost-efficient in the future. It supports organizations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance. Humanitarian aid’ is aid and action designed to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain and protect human dignity during and in the aftermath of emergencies.
To date the Fund has awarded grants to 28 projects from its large grant facility which supports the development, implementation and testing of innovation in humanitarian contexts with grants of up to £150,000. It has also awarded grants to 21 projects from its small grant facility which supports the recognition, invention and dissemination of an innovation with grants of up to £20,000.

- Open Innovation Challenges seeking novel solutions from far and wide.
- Accelerated Innovation Pathways brokering new collaborations between actors to create new research and development partnerships.
