Reuters Journalism Trainee Program
The Reuters Journalism Trainee Program, operating out of London, New York and Singapore, seeks candidates with the drive to become first-rate journalists and the skill to connect news events with the dynamics of the international financial markets. Trainees will take part in several weeks of intensive classroom training then work on reporting teams in regional newsrooms in London, New York and across Asia. You will hit the ground running—reporting and delivering news stories to exacting Thomson Reuters standards. After the nine-month program, trainees who meet the performance standards will move to staff positions.
- Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career journalists and financial professionals or final year students/recent graduates of journalism, economics, business or languages.
- A passion for journalism, with evidence of editorial work experience.
- Fluency in more than one language is a distinct advantage. Arabic, Russian, Mandarin or German are particularly welcome.
- A proven interest in financial news and grasp of key economic trends.
A strong academic record at the bachelor’s or master’s degree level.
Reuters Global Journalism Internships
The Reuters Global Journalism Internships offer talented students and graduates an opportunity to learn and shine in bureaus internationally. The paid internships are a crash course in hands-on business, political and general news reporting. Every intern will report to a senior editor and be assigned a journalist mentor to provide advice and guidance during the summer. They’re expected to write regularly and deliver in-depth stories during their assignment. Interns will receive several days of formal training before they start work, focused on writing skills, journalism ethics and basic financial knowledge.
- Eligibility Criteria
- A student or recent graduate who is passionate about news and a quick learner.
- Strong academic record in journalism, economics, business, law, accounting, languages or computer science.
- Journalism experience.
- Fluency in English and possess excellent writing and communication skills.
- Good mathematics skills.
- Have the legal right to work in the country where you have chosen to apply.
- Advanced skills in other languages – particularly Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, German – are an asset.
- Internship Available
- Americas – 10 weeks: New York City (5 positions), Washington D.C. (2 positions), Chicago or Los Angeles (1 position), Sao Paulo or Mexico City (2 positions)
- Europe – Six weeks: London (6 positions)
- Asia – About 8 weeks: Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Beijing (6 positions)
