Fahamu is pleased to invite applications for 2nd Pan-African Fellowship Program (FPAF) in 2013 to generate contemporary, energetic, visionary and innovative thought and activism, from the local to the continental.This program that was launched in 2013 is held annually has a vision of nurturing African social justice leaders by establishing a fellowship programme for activists.
Fahamu is distinctively placed as a pan-African organisation supporting and working collaboratively with social movements over the long term. Rather than imposing generic solutions to address the needs of and to strengthen movements, Fahamu is committed to ensuring that our interventions are relevant, timely and significant to the movements we serve.
Through the program African activists have an opportunity to enhance their skills, experience and deepen their theoretical and practical understanding of methods for effective advocacy and creating meaningful change. At the same time the program aims to strengthen community based organisations and social movements by implementing the learning of these activists within their movements and organisations.
Eligibility-
- Candidates must be Kenyans aged 25-30 years
- Community based activists with qualities of leadership and innovation
- Formal education should not be a limitation to participation in the fellowship program, if relevant experience can be demonstrated
- Have demonstrable interest and commitment to social justice in Africa within a particular community based organisation or grassroots movement
- Candidates should have ability and willingness to transfer learning to their respective communities, organizations and movements
- The candidates must have a good working knowledge of the language in which the program is imparted i.e. English and Kiswahili
- Have basic computer skills
The candidate should be proposed and his/her candidacy supported by his/her organization and/or community. It is desirable that the sponsoring organization has a firm constituency or membership, is representative, and undertakes work on social justice advocacy.
How to apply?
- Application forms can be downloaded from the Fahamu website or collected from the Fahamu offices.
- Fellowship applications will only be taken into consideration if they are fully completed. These includes-
- The fellow’s application form and personal essay
- Fellow’s community based organization or movement application form and referral letter
- 2 recommendation letters from partner organisations from applicant’s community whom they have worked with on a social justice activism campaign
Application documents can be sent by regular post or scanned, delivered and e-mailed to the given addresses in website.
