The International Development Research Centre(IDRC) is calling organizations to participate in a 5-year Science Granting Councils Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa to support research and evidence-based policies that will contribute to economic and social development.
IDRC aims at producing knowledge, innovation, and solutions to improve lives and livelihoods in the developing world.
Objectives
- Strengthen the ability of Science Granting Councils to manage research
- design and monitor research programs based on the use of robust science, technology, and innovation indicators
- support knowledge exchange with the private sector
- establish partnerships with each other and with other science system actors.
Funding Information
The Initiative currently has funding for up to eight (8) Science Granting Councils.
Supporting Areas
- provide researchers in developing countries with the financial resources, advice, and training that will help them find solutions to the local problems they identify.
- encourage sharing knowledge with policy-makers, other researchers, and communities around the world.
- foster new talent by offering fellowships and awards.
- disseminate research findings and strive to get new knowledge into the hands of those who can use it.
Eligibility Criteria
Science granting councils in Eastern, Southern, Central and West Africa are eligible to apply for the program.
How to Apply
- The application procedure consist of two phases
- Research grant Idea
- Detailed Proposal
- Applicants first have to submit a research grant idea to the program officer and the selected applicants will be asked to submit a detailed proposal.
