Section N: In no more than 500 words, applicants must explain how the project activities are logically linked (either directly or indirectly) to the anticipated changes described in Section M. Include such information as details of strategies, tools, techniques, and resources that will be used to contribute to the expected change.
Example 1: The ABC Organization has designed our project so that project activities are logically linked (either directly or indirectly) to the changes we anticipate occurring.
Building 5 Safe Spaces: All the preparatory work to build 5 safe spaces for schoolgirls has been completed. The selected building sites are shovel-ready. Funds have been procured to support this part of the project.
Creating Policies and Procedures: To develop school policies and procedures that address violence against both girls and boys, the following actions will take place:
- Parents, educators, and project leaders will meet weekly for the first six months of the project. Meetings will be held at the school.
- This group will review and discuss best practices, and interview individuals who have successfully gone through this process in similar situations. Communications will either in-person or via the Internet.
- After research, review, and discussion, the team will draft policies and procedures. Drafts will be shared online for community response.
- The school board will accept a final version of the policies and procedures within 12 months of the beginning of this process.
- The newly accepted policies and procedures will be implemented at the start of the next school year. A staff member will be hired for implementation that includes directly dealing with issues/events/actions that are not in line with the policies and procedures, will keep records of these incidents, and will provide the group with a report on a quarterly basis.
Tool-Kit Development: The tool kit, along with offers to do presentations, will be made available at no cost to any group (e.g., schools, nonprofit organizations, etc.) throughout the length of this project and into the future. Elements to be included in the tool-kit will be developed with the ABC Organization’s leadership team and educators who are interested in working on this project as well as a media professional from the region. We anticipate the tool-kit to take about 9 months to complete – from conception of ideas to distribution. Media outlets of all kinds (Internet, TV, radio, newspapers, social media, etc.) will receive the tool kit along with an invitation to interview project participants. The ABC Organization is requesting funds to support this portion of the project.
Legislative Advocacy: Project leaders as well as project participants will have opportunities to influence legislators and local area government officials. Presentations will be scheduled in front of the city council during their monthly meetings. The first presentation will be an overview of the project. This will be followed by quarterly updates. Meetings between parents, educators, and project leaders and legislators will take place with the goal of creating a working committee to draft legislation. The final version of the legislation will go through the government process to get legislation passed. Resources to support travel are needed for this part of the project.
Example 2: The XYZ Foundation’s project is designed with project activities logically linked (either directly or indirectly) to the changes we anticipate occurring.
Policy Development and Implementation: At each company participating in the project, project leaders and company stakeholders will meet on a regular basis (at least once a month) to draft documents that will be posted online for managerial and worker feedback. Meeting agendas and minutes will also be recorded and posted online. Resources needed for this part of the project will be underwritten by the companies involved and by the Foundation.
Resources will be needed for travel, lodging, and food for coalition participants for each meeting at each company. An expert facilitator will also be hired full-time to work with groups at each company to develop and implement new policies and procedures.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Statistics on the number of sexual harassment and workplace violence issues will be recorded throughout the project; workers and management will be surveyed before and after implementation of policies and procedures; and focus groups of participants will be conducted. An external evaluator will be hired with grant funds to implement this analysis plan and develop reports and related documents for the project team to review and use to implement any changes, if needed.
Legislative Advocacy: Project leaders will develop a coalition of representatives from various nonprofit organizations (both local and international) that focus on women’s issues, relevant unions, companies outsourcing work to India in the garment industry, and relevant government agencies to participate in activities that are opportunities to influence government representatives. This coalition will meet at least once a month to draft relevant legislation. Once a final draft has been completed, coalition members will assist legislators in moving the new laws through the legislative process. Resources will be needed for travel, lodging, food, and printing of documents for coalition participants for each meeting.
