The Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Campaigns and Advocacy Officer based in London.
The Campaigns and Advocacy Officer will report to the Head of Programmes and maintain a particularly close working relationship with the Communications department, and other departments as necessary. There are no direct line management responsibilities but possible supervision of occasional volunteers.
MSF helps people worldwide where the need is greatest, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Campaigns and Advocacy Officer will perform the following functions-
- Campaigns
- Lead on coordinating MSF UK’s involvement in MSF’s global campaigns
- Essential Medicines campaign, adapting international strategies for a UK environment
- Work closely with the Public Engagement Officer to develop campaign materials suitable for our student groups
- Research
- Maintain oversight and understanding of the key contexts in which MSF is operational in order to provide updates and briefings for both internal and external audiences
- Support the Programmes Advisor on Health Policy with research on global health issues, including drafting and collating policy briefings and mapping stakeholders
- Public & Policy Engagement
- Attend relevant meetings, briefings and presentations in the UK in order to report back to the MSF movement internationally
- Represent MSF’s positioning at relevant events to governmental and policy community
- Develop and collate materials to represent / carry MSF’s positioning on key humanitarian and health policy issues
- Attend other relevant events, conferences and lectures on humanitarian and global health issues in order to provide written feedback and updates for other MSF staff
- Arrange meetings for MSF operational staff with relevant UK government departments, NGOs and other key interlocutors. Accompany MSF staff to meetings and keep records of meeting content and outcomes
- Oversee the daily running of the MSF ‘Opinions and Debates’ online project by providing editorial support and ensuring the collation of a regular supply of relevant content. Work with the digital team to promote the content across the sector
- Work with the Public Engagement Officer to arrange UK based events on humanitarian and global health issues
- Administration
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings to share information, brainstorm solutions and coordinate priorities with both the Programmes teams and the wider MSF UK office
- Lead cross-departmental campaigns planning, and support organisational aspects within related cross-departmental work
- Provide regular written updates on work activities and outputs as part of wider departmental and office reporting structure
- Maintain commitment to the aims and values of MSF through proactive involvement in and attendance at ongoing MSF UK and wider movement operational activities
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Proven commitment to and deep understanding of MSF’s humanitarian work
- A relevant post graduate qualification (international politics, global health etc.)
- Knowledge of current humanitarian debates and discussions
- Demonstrable experience working in an advocacy and/or campaigns and/or policy environment
- Proven research skills and fluency in global humanitarian / health policy issues
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex multifaceted policy issues
- Strong networking skills
- Experience of negotiating with a diverse range of people
- Confident and eloquent presentation style
- Excellent written communications skills with experience of producing written material
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, both in the UK and internationally
- Strong organisational skills with experience of managing multiple tasks and prioritising effectively
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Knowledge of written/spoken French or another foreign language
- Understanding of global health issues
- Previous MSF experience
- Understanding of the UK policy environment
