The Progressio is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Capacity Building Adviser based in Hargeisa, Somalia.
Progressio is a UK-based charity working internationally to enable poor and marginalised people in developing countries to challenge and change the situations that keep them poor.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Capacity Building Adviser will perform the following functions-
- The Capacity Building Adviser will be placed with the Barwaqoo Voluntary Organisation and the Women Rehabilitation and Development Association, working alongside key staff members on a daily basis on fundraising, editing project reports and building and strengthening the capacity of women’s community-based organisations in decision-making and participation in the democratic processes in Somaliland.
- Take a lead on project activities by providing on-going mentoring and on-the-job coaching.
- strengthen the knowledge and skills of 12 staff members of BVO (six staff members) and WORDA (six staff members) in developing at least four concept notes and/or project proposals (two concept notes and/or project proposals for each organisation) and assist in editing the project reports prepared by the six BVO staff members.
- organize and conduct a training of trainers (ToT) for 12 BVO and WORDA staff members (eight community facilitators and four staff) and at least 20 women representatives from 10 selected SHGs (two women representatives from each SHG) in leadership, community development and mobilisation, rights-based advocacy and tools in monitoring, communication and networking, gender equality and constitutional rights, documentation and reporting, community surveys and needs assessment.
- Assist and mentor the 12 staff members of BVO and WORDA and 20 women representatives in training 380 women from 20 SHGs in leadership, community development and mobilisation, rights-based advocacy and tools in monitoring, communication and networking, gender equality and constitutional rights, documentation and reporting, community surveys and needs assessment.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in social or community development, development studies, or another relevant discipline
- Minimum of five years’ experience within the NGO sector
- Minimum of three years’ experience in community development and mobilisation, organisational capacity building, including training/facilitation methodologies and direct training
- Minimum of three years’ work experience developing concept notes and/or project proposals, action plans, training plans and designs
- Experience of working in a resource poor environment
- Demonstrable experience of community engagement on SGBV prevention related to the issues of this placement
- Experience in working with NGO sector and community based women’s groups in East African countries
- An understanding of the issues facing a post-conflict society and of the role which NGOs play in democratisation
- Solid knowledge of rights-based advocacy, community development and the mobilisation of women and girls
- Knowledge/understanding of areas linked to women’s participation in decision making
- Skills in gender mainstreaming
