United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of ICT Specialist (Business Information) in New York, United States.
The ICT Specialist’s (Business Information) work is to design, develop, and maintain Dashboards, Reports and Custom applications required to meet the needs of management and oversight functions.
UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The ICT Specialist (Business Information) will perform the following functions-
- Analyze reporting requirements as requested through the Business Information governance process; propose optimal alternatives to deliver solutions as necessary; make recommendation on the adaptation of business processes and systems to assure that all necessary data to produce these reports is available in the right format and at the right time.
- Agree on priority for development and deployment of such dashboards/reports and custom solutions.
- Develop and maintain new diverse types of BI/custom applications to support organization’s information requirements, including planning, results/risk assessments, utilization, and expenditure reports.
- Provide technical support and guidance to short-term staff working on the development of BI/Custom applications.
- Co-ordinate with short-term staff in work planning and other supervisory and management functions.
- Ensure that data in the dashboards/web applications/reports are updated, accurate and consistent across the organization, taking into consideration elements [diverse information sources] from different Divisions/Offices and Regional and Field Offices.
- Produce technical and end-user documentation of all BI/Custom applications produced; implement such documentation through the UNICEF Intranet, web portals and deliver it to offices in coordination with Global Help Desk.
- Conduct personal or on-line trainings to promote the usage and adaptation of BI/Custom applications for all users worldwide.
- Perform and assume other tasks, duties and responsibilities that may be required, as defined by Supervisor.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An advanced university degree (Master’s) in Information Systems Management, Information Management, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field is required.
- A first university degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant field as identified above combined with eight (8) eight years of relevant work experience, at the national or international levels, in applications development, information management, or system development may be taken in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Training in relevant disciplines, major or substantial course work in information management, or application system development is highly desirable.
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience, at the national or international levels, in applications development, information management, or system development is required.
- Working knowledge of business process and data analysis and design methodologies, tools and techniques is highly desirable.
- Experience in designing and developing highly scalable, usable, and distributed applications using Microsoft.NET technologies, SharePoint or open source technologies is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge, skills and hands-on development experience with programming languages C# and Dot.Net, JavaScript, XML, HTML, CSS, web frameworks such JQuery and similar web based development languages is highly desirable.
- Experience in developing and consuming web services (WCF, SOAP, REST APIs) is an asset.
- Experience working in projects having integration with Microsoft products (Exchange, Office, etc.), integration with other systems using open standards and frameworks is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of opens source technologies either of PHP, Python/Django Framework, and Ruby highly or similar is desirable.
- Strong knowledge, skills and experience with software testing methodologies is desirable.
- System Development Lifecycle methodologies, strong knowledge version management using (VS/TFS, Git) is desirable.
- Good technical and business process documentation skills are desirable.
- Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required. Fluency in an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is considered an asset.
