Youth Challenge International (YCI) has initiated its “Go the Extra Mile Scholarships” to help YCI volunteers cover the cost of their flight to programs in Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Senegal, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
The “Go the Extra Mile Scholarships” will be awarded to prospective volunteers who are eager to go abroad with YCI but are restricted by the cost of flights. In a broader sense the scholarships will:
- Support a broader demographic of youth to participate in YCI volunteer projects
- Generate greater attention and interest in YCI volunteer project to new audiences
- Encourage youth to share their experiences as leaders in their communities through a mandatory public engagement component
YCI’s commitment to achieve meaningful development results, scholarships will be granted to candidates based on merit. Scholarship candidates will need to submit applications for the desired scholarship at least 3 months in advance of the start date of their placements and also have submitted the documents and fundraising target required for their first deadline. Scholarship recipients will be responsible for any post project travel costs. The scholarship recipient will incur the cost of the flight tax, which could be substantial.
YCI will be accepting creative applications in the form of essays, blogs, photos, music, videos, social media campaigns using Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. The candidates must creatively express how they will “Go The Extra Mile” for YCI and international youth development by responding to the following question:
