Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) is a non-government, not-for-profit community focused development organisation founded in 1997. We have successfully operated in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria for the past 12 years and we are currently working in other areas in Nigeria.
We advocate the participatory process as the most effective vehicle for sustainable development, conflict transformation and economic improvement. We strongly believe in increasing the capacity of community institutions hence provide capacity building training through our training arm, the Institute of Sustainable Development.
We pioneered the Community Development Foundation model which has been widely adopted by various communities, NGO’s and government bodies, as a most effective model for sustainable community development. The CDF model is a bottom-top approach to community development. It advocates communities to assess their resources, determine their needs, develop an action plan and then solicit for assistance from appropriate bodies. This approach is totally participatory.
Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) is a member of a wider Pro-Natura family with headquarters in Paris and we are also partners with the United Nations Global Compact, IDASA, IMA International, private organisations and so on. We are recipient of the 2005 ‘Social Excellence Award’ by the World Petroleum Congress for our ‘Coastal Development Initiative’.
Our Board of Trustee and management team are comprised of Nigerian nationals and Expatriates who strategically work together in our relentless effort to achieve our mission of reducing poverty in Nigeria through institutional capacity building for sustainable development.
