    Imo Youth Network Programme
    Letter of Inquiry
“Water, Sanitation and Hygiene For Re-inventing The Toilet Challenge”
Imo Youth Network Programme (IYNP) is a voluntary, not-for-profit and non-governmental organization. It was registered by the government in 1993 via Registration number OWZ 318. Objectives of IYNP include: promotion of health and enhanced quality of life among the citizenry. Our members are also actively involved in programs aimed at HIV/AIDS prevention and poverty eradication. Imo states is one of impoverished states in South East Nigeria. Members of Imo communities are exposed to unhygienic surroundings, unclean water and other health hazards from unsanitary environment, including lack of clean toilet facilities or ill –constructed ones. These are some of the risk factors and or after effect extreme poverty, both in the rural and urban communities in Imo.
The incidences of Malaria, TB are the resultant of stagnant water infested with mosquitos, crock chis, therefore exposing majority of the population to health risks.
Proposed Initiative: focus group discussions (FGD) Conducted by IYNP in select communities reveal that; people where well aware of the health implications of lack of potable/ clean water. We are also concerned about ill-equipped or lack of functional toilets. Therefore, people had expressed the need for restructured/ functional, cost-effective and sustainable water and sanitation systems. This will then assist in the promotion of hygienic environment and diseases free water supply.
In the vein, IYNP is proposing an initiative that will adopt, water purification strategies coupled with rain water harvest and storage especially, in rural communities/villages.
IYNP intend to address and re-event the toilet challenge. It intends to promote and improve on the “Flush Toilet” system and the latrine or pit method (where appropriate)
Detail project proposal shall be submitted for implementation in select impoverished Imo communities.
Your earliest response will be highly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Felicia A.Iheaka
Programme Director, Imo Youth Network Programme
43 Ikenegbu Ext, Opp Fire Service Police Station.
