A List of European Funders for Human Rights Projects and NGOs

Europe has been central to providing funding grants for promotion and protection of human rights around the world. The European Commission’s European Intrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) is a major donor programme that engages with civil society organizations outside of the European Union to protect human rights, justice, the rule of law and the promotion of democracy by providing regular funding support.

But apart from the EIDHR, there are a number of small and medium-sized grant-making foundations in Europe that provide human rights grants to NGOs around the world. We have identified ten such donor agencies here.

  1. Alert Fund for Youth: Supporting Human Rights and Global Justice
  2. Abilis Foundation: Equal Opportunities for the Disabled
  3. Anne Frank Foundation for better understanding and peace
  4. Austrian Development Cooperation Funding for Civil Society
  5. Danish Institute for Human Rights
  6. Danish Peace Foundation for Disarmament and Peace
  7. KIOS – The Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights
  8. Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF)
  9. Hivos: Rights and Citizenship
  10. Mama Cash supporting Human Rights Movements

Here in India, there is high exploitation in the name of caste, religious, traditions and customs. The poor Dalit girls and women are being dedicated in the name of Goddess. The land lords are supporting the illegal practices for their vested interests and free sexual pleasures. In this regard the uneducated and the poor Dalit girls and women and their families were eliminated thrice. Something needs to be done to stop it all.

Talented Young People Everywhere (TYPE) Sierra Leone work in the interest of Children, Youth employment, Girl child education, Good health, Poverty eradication, Agriculture, etc in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
Can we send applications to youth led local NGOs for funding? If so, how can we apply for grants in our area of interest?

      March 21, 2014 at 12:08 pm

      Hello Mohamed,
You can send applications/proposals prepared on your own format to the youth led local NGOs (who have not announced formal call and set any format for application submissions). If you want to submit proposals as a response to call, you should have the project relevant to call and must meet all eligibility criteria. Also you should submit the concept note/proposal/application as asked by the grant giving organization.
      Thank you!
