The Channel Foundation promotes leadership in women’s human rights around globe by supporting organizations engaged in combating gender inequality. The foundation identifies and provides grants to organizations or projects that specifically champion women’s rights. It creates opportunities in order to ensure that women’s rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled.

The foundation envisions a world where women and girls have full access to the information, resources, training, and employment opportunities to overcome social, legal and economic barriers thus participating in decision making.

  • Unsolicited proposals will not be accepted.

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is inviting applications for the training program on Women, peace and Security in Stockholm Sweden in the months of September 2015 and March 2016.

This training is conducted UNSCR 1325. UNSCR 1325 was a milestone in international efforts to end gender blindness and marginalization of women in post conflict peace and security operations. SIDA covers the candidate’s participation fee and accommodation fee along with travel expenses. A maximum of 25 applicants are admitted every year.

Course Highlights

  • Knowledge and understanding of the UNSCR 1325 Women, Peace and Security, and related concepts, methods and tools.
  • Increased understanding and ability to initiate organizational change processes.
  • Sharing experience through international and national networks.

Stages

  1. Introductory phase, development of a concept note
  2. Three weeks training in Sweden
  3. Interim period (6 months) to develop the project assign
  4. Regional follow-up, 2 weeks
  5. Continuation of the project assignment

The Hague Academy for Local Governance offers various short courses for professionals working in municipalities, Ministries, NGOs and training or research institutes and other government bodies to strengthen their capacities leading to effective performance in the workplace. The Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) and Middle-East and North-Africa (MENA) Scholarship Program (MSP) support individuals participate in these short courses. It is again the time to apply for NFP/MSP to participate in The Hague Academy Short Courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To apply for the course with NFP, applicants must be a national of, and working and living in, one of the 51 countries listed by NUFFIC.
  • Candidates have to be nominated by their employer to be eligible for the fellowship. There also has to be a clear need for training within the context of the organization.
  • Applicants who are employed by an organization that has its own means of staff-development are not eligible to apply for NFP.
  • Applicants must have an official or valid passport
  • Applicants must not receive more than one fellowship for courses that take place at the same time.
  • Applicants must have a government statement that meets the requirements of the country in which the employer is established (if applicable).
  • To apply for the course with MSP, applicants must be professional (with a maximum age of 45) and be a national or/ and working in one of the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Syria and Tunisia.
  • Only completed application forms will be considered.

Note: Completed application form must be accommodated with Employer Statement Form and Government Statement Form to be considered for NFP/MENA for these short courses.

The Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) on Wageningen UR Creating Capacities for Change – Courses 2015

The Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation (CDI) yearly conducts a number of short-term training courses for the development of professionals worldwide. Most of these fellowship courses are open for the Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) to working professionals who are the citizen of and are working in the NFP country. An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research.

We have compiled a list of open short courses of CDI for which applications can be made for NFP.  Interested individuals belonging to and working in NFP countries who meet the eligibility criteria for the course are invited to submit applications to both CDI and NFP. Remember to go through ‘how to apply’ section to be clear on the key dates to apply for NFP and the CDI course to be eligible for the course with NFP fellowship. Please thoroughly review the courses and details and apply for the relevant courses to grab the opportunity to strengthen your professional capacity. Please be guided of the general eligibility criteria and application procedure before beginning through the list of courses –

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be working professionals employed in the NFP country and citizen of the NFP country to be eligible for the fellowship.
  • Candidates must be nominated by their employer and there should be a clear need for training within the context of the organization.
  • Applicants must have at least a B.Sc.-level (or equivalent) and a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
  • Applicants cannot be students.
  • Applicants must be proficient in English language.

  • Applicants will receive a confirmation email after submitting the online application for the course.
  • NFP application result is announced 16 weeks after the NFP application deadline.

Individuals who want to apply for more than one short course with NFP Fellowship can apply for one short course per NFP application deadline (thrice a year).

Greenovators Contest of US$250,000 for Youth Innovators

Youth innovators from 26 borrowing countries of Inter-American Development Bank are invited to participate in Greenovators Contest. This is a chance for each youth participant a Seed Fund of US$15,000.

Greenovators, an initiative of the Inter-Development Bank (IDB), Earth University and the Republic of Costa Rica Ministry of Environment and Energy, aims to reward and promote projects of mitigation and adaptation to change climate led by young people aged 18 to 30 years.

Total 30 projects that represent innovative solutions to the challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean will be selected for the Seed Fund and an opportunity to participate in the Greenovators Event.

Prizes

  1. US$15,000 to 5 young leaders
  2. US$10,000 each to 10 young leaders
  3. US$5,000 each to 15 young leaders

The 30 Young Winners will participate in the Greenovators event in Costa Rica.

Submit Communications on Women Human Rights Violations to UN Women

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, UN Women, Commission on the Status of Women accepts communications in the form of complaints, appeals or petitions on the Status of Women. The communication must contain information relating to alleged violations of human rights that affect the status of women in any country in the world. Such communications are part of the Commission’s annual program or work. They help the Commission identify emerging trends and patterns of injustice and discriminatory practices against women works as guideline in policy formulation and development of strategies for the promotion of gender equality.

How does it work?

  1. Communications with detailed information on the allegations of human rights violations affecting the Status of Women are received by UN Women Human Rights Sections till 1 August 2014
  2. The UN Women Secretary-General sends communications to the Governments concerned and these governments are invited to submit replies with 12-weeks deadline.
  3. Compilation of confidential report by UN Women, containing the summaries of communications and replies from the concerned Governments (if any)
  4. A working group on communications on the status of women meets in closed meetings for about five working days. During these meetings, the group considers the communications and replies. The working group prepares a report that identifies trends and patterns of reliably-attested injustice and discriminatory practices against women. The report indicates the categories in which communications are most frequently submitted to the Commission.
  5. The confidential list of communications and replies, and the working group’s report are made ready for distribution in the annual session.
  6. In second week of the Annual Session, the Commission on the Status of Women takes up the item ‘Communications concerning the Status of Women’ in closed meeting(s).
  7. Recommendations can be made to the Economic and Social Council on the action to be taken on emerging trends and patterns of discrimination against women.
  8. The Commission takes note of the report of the Working Group and includes in the annual report that submits to the Economic and Social Council.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Submissions can be made by any individual, non-governmental organization, group or network from anywhere in the world.
  • The communications must contain accurate and detailed information relating to women’s rights in any sector in any country in the world.

The Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) invites grant applications for Peace Projects, the grant program that supports NGO projects promoting peaceful coexistence through dialogue and reconciliation; fostering pluralism, good governance, freedom of belief; advancing social and economic development and environmental responsibility; upholding respect for human rights, and gender equality and empowerment and other broad range of disciplines.

The JWF is a non-governmental organization that promotes peaceful coexistence through dialogue and understanding at global, regional and local levels.

Grant Awards

  1. Project Grants of maximum US$50,000 to implement the project.

Participants from around the globe are invited take part in Marlegno Prefabricated Wooden’s Buildings Designing the Future Competition organized by Marlegno Prefabricated Wooden Buildings, in collaboration with the Association of Architects of Bergamo. The mission of organizing this competition is to obtain different architectural solutions, starting from a few basic elements/modules.

Prizes:

  • First place 5.600,00 euro
  • Second place 2.800,00 euro
  • Third place 1.400,00 euro

Note: The first 50 projects will be exhibited at Marlegno exhibition hall until 31 October 31, 2014.

Documents required:

The project work, consisting of one drawing, must be in ISO format A1 (594 mm * 841 mm) vertical and contain:

  • Concept
  • Technical drawings , plans, elevations , sections and construction details
  • Rendering

The files must be in “.Pdf” format, and have a total maximum size of 20 MB.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The contest is open to graduate students, architects, engineers and designers.
  • Groups can participate but must nominate a single representative.
  • Each participant is permitted to submit a single project.
  • The contest is international and the official language is English.
