Benefits

The award provides the following for each Fellow:

  • Airfare, coach class, from the recipient’s home country to the United States and return trip to the recipient’s home country (transportation to and from the airport in the recipient’s home country is the responsibility of the award recipient).
  • Transportation related to library visits (arranged by OCLC).
  • Lodging (arranged by OCLC).
  • Subsistence, including meals.
  • Medical insurance (arranged by OCLC).

Eligibility Criteria

Promising library and information science professionals who are in early stages of career development and who meet all of the qualifications are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must:

  • Be a legal national from a eligible country (mentioned above) and be working as a librarian or information science professional in that country.
  • Be employed in a library or information center.
  • Have a qualifying degree in library or information science. The qualifying degree may vary depending upon country of origin, but should be the general library or information science degree recognized in the country. Normally a PhD is not considered a qualifying degree, because the
  • Fellowship program is targeted for early career librarians.
  • Have obtained the qualifying degree between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015.
  • Have at least three years, but no more than eight years, of library or information science experience. For the 2017 program, applicants must have library or information science experience that begins no earlier than January 1, 2008 and no later than January 1, 2013.
  • Read and speak English proficiently.
  • Be prepared to work as a team member with other Fellows and to participate as required in this fast-paced program.
  • Have a valid passport.
  • Be able to obtain documentation permitting legal entry into the United States or any other country required for program participation.

The U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Program seeks single-country proposals for its Local Grants Program. The Local Grants Program serves as a MEPI’s most direct means of supporting organizations and individuals in the Middle East and North Africa.

MEPI supports citizens’ efforts aimed at economic, social, and political empowerment; expanding opportunities for women and youth; and helping communities create positive change.  MEPI Local Grants promote greater freedom and opportunity for people in the region.

  • MEPI welcomes proposals irrespective of the applicant’s race, ethnicity, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

The Swedish Institute is currently inviting applications for its Creative Force programme 2016. The Creative Force programme provides funding for collaborative initiatives involving organisations in Sweden and in the focused regions mentioned below with the overall objective to strengthen democratic structures and freedom of expression in the target countries.

Focus Areas

The programme supports projects that aim to promote human rights, transparency and democracy with the aid of initiatives that use either culture or the media as a method for achieving change.

Funding Categories

Creative Force programme provides two types of funding:

  1. Seed funding: Seed funding is available for such purposes as small-scale projects, project start-ups and planning trips.
  2. Collaborative projects funding: Creative Force projects should also have a communicative dimension with the potential to influence opinion and encourage a dialogue about the issues which the project works.

The World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is inviting women working for newspapers or digital media to apply for Women in News (WIN) leadership development programme.

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, or WAN-IFRA, is the global organisation of the world’s press, representing more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries. It was created by the July 2009 merger of the World Association of Newspapers and IFRA, the research and service organisation for the news publishing industry. The two organisations have a 110-year history between them as the global representatives of the world’s press.

The Women in News (WIN) programme provides women media professionals with personalized, high-impact leadership development opportunities with the support of local and international experts. It works with media companies and their high potential female employees to overcome the gender gap in management and senior management positions. The programme equips women media professionals in middle and senior management positions with the strategies, skills and support networks they need to take on a greater leadership role within their organisations.

Applications are open for the 2016 TechWomen Program that empowers, connects, and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East by providing them the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and inspire women and girls in their communities.

TechWomen is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is currently accepting proposals for TechWomen 2016 program.

Through mentorship and exchange, TechWomen strengthens participants’ professional capacity, increases mutual understanding between key networks of professionals, and expands girls’ interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers by exposing them to female role models.
