Colombia- Prosperity Fund 2016 to Promote Economic Reform & Development

The British Embassy Bogotá has announced a Prosperity Fund to promote economic reform and development needed for growth in partner countries. The priorities will include improving the business climate, competitiveness and operation of markets, energy and financial sector reform, and increasing the ability of partner countries to tackle corruption.

The Prosperity Fund will focus on supporting large-scale, multi-year programmes linked to the FCO’s priorities.

Funding Objectives

  • Increase Colombia’s regional stability and prosperity to support sustainable peace through regional capacity building, institutional strengthening, and the generation of better infrastructure and jobs in former conflict regions.
  • Improve Colombia’s business environment to facilitate more sustainable, inclusive growth by supporting good governance, reducing corruption and creating more open, competitive markets.
  • Enable Colombia to be more competitive; harnessing the use of science, innovation and entrepreneurship; reducing labour informality; and engaging the private sector as leaders on sustainable business.
  • Support Colombia’s OECD accession, by collaborating on the implementation of rules-based, international standards.
  • Strengthen the Pacific Alliance as an integrated, open-market trading bloc and integrated financial market.
  • Build on the Embassy’s existing focus on areas including: infrastructure, anti-corruption, science & innovation, future cities and energy.
  • Support Colombia’s transition to a low carbon economy and its ambition to achieve 30% emissions reduction, dependent on international assistance.

Funding

The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review announced a £1.3bn Prosperity Fund over the next 5 years to promote the economic reform and development needed for growth in partner countries.

Eligibility Criteria

The Prosperity Fund accepts project proposals from civil society, governments, think-tanks, commercial organizations and other UK government departments.

Road Safety Grants Programme 2016: Supporting NGOs/CSOs in Selected low- and middle-income Countries

The Global Road Safety Partnership is currently calling for Proposals for Round 9 of its Road Safety Grants Programme. The Programme supports projects to develop and deliver high-impact, evidence-based road safety interventions designed to strengthen road safety policies and their implementation.

The Programme objective is to support civil society and government organizations in selected low- and middle-income countries to advocate for policy change to address gaps in policies to protect road users.  It also supports organizations to promote the successful implementation of evidence-based policies.

Eligible Countries and Cities

Philippines, Tanzania, Ghana (Accra), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), Indonesia (Bandung), Thailand (Bangkok), Colombia (Bogota), Brazil (Fortaleza), Viet Nam (Ho Chi Minh City), India (Mumbai), Brazil (Sao Paolo) and China  (Shanghai ).

Funding available & Duration

Proposals can be submitted for grants up to a maximum amount of 120,000 Swiss francs (CHF) for a short-term, one-year or two-year project.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Governmental and non-governmental organizations based in eligible countries and cities can apply for grants within the following parameters:
    • Governmental organizations with relevant authority over road safety policy and/ or its implementation. Road police and military agencies are not eligible to apply.
    • Non-governmental organizations (including but not limited to civil society organizations andeducational institutions) with relevant advocacy experience on policy reform/and or its implementation.
  • Additionally,
    • Applicants must be registered legal entities capable of entering into contractual arrangements, receiving foreign funds, and assuming legal and financial obligations.
    • Applicants cannot be recipients of financial support from alcohol, firearms, pornography, and tobacco industries.
    • The Road Safety Grants Programme does not fund individuals.
    • If you are a current grantee organization, please discuss development of Concept Note with your technical advisor.
    • Only applications written in English will be accepted.
    • Priority will be given to applications focusing on policy change related to the following road safety behavioral risk factors: drinking and driving, helmet wearing, seat belt use, child restraint use and speeding.

Romanian State to foreign citizens through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently inviting applications for the 85 scholarships program for under- and post-graduate studies in Romania.

Scholarship Covers

2nd ERANet-LAC Joint Call 2015-2016 on Research & Innovation for Europe, Latin-America & Caribbean Countries

European Commission is currently inviting applications for its 2nd ERANet-LAC Joint Call 2015-2016. The aim of the Programme is to start new, sustainable and multilateral research cooperation between researchers from Europe, Latin-America and the Caribbean countries. The fundamental principles of the call guiding the selection of projects to be funded are:

  • Transparency.:The process for reaching funding decisions will be clearly described and available to any interested party.
  • Equality of treatment: All proposals shall be treated alike, irrespective of where they originate or the identity of the proposers.
  • Ethical considerations: Any proposal that contravenes fundamental ethical principles may be excluded from being evaluated and selected at any time.

Argentina, Barbados, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal (tbc), Romania, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey and Uruguay.

Project Duration

The duration of a project can be up to 36 months (check national regulations). Approved projects should start between November 2016 and January 2017.

  • Waste management, recycling and urban mining.
  • Biorefinery – Fractionation and valorisation of residual biomass to intermediate and/or final high added value bioproducts.
  • Biorefinery – Lignocellulosic biorefinery platform: Production of high-value biobased products.
  • Wind Energy – Advancement of small/medium-scale wind turbines in EULAC countries.
  • Solar thermal energy – Energy storage technologies.
  • Cancer – Improving the quality of care and quality of life of dying cancer patients.
  • Infectious diseases – Research in prevention of infectious diseases and promotion of well-being.
  • (ICT in relation with HEALTH): Improving wellbeing and inclusiveness through e-health, m-health, and active and assisted living (AAL) solutions.
  • Smarter, inclusive and sustainable cities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The ERANet-LAC call includes 32 different national funding organizations with their own call management system. In order to respect the necessary national funding rules and procedures, national eligibility criteria have been defined by the participating countries. Project partners are advised to check in advance what type of costs are eligible for national beneficiaries as well as the funding rates and limits of the countries in question.
  • Applicants can represent public and private scientific, research, technological and innovation  8 institutions on national, federal or EU-LAC regional level, research active industry and NGOs and other institutions involved in research and or innovation activities, as long as they are eligible for funding according to the respective national and/or institutional regulations.
  • There should be a principal investigator (PI) for each of the national research groups. Within a joint proposal, the principal investigator from each country will be the contact person towards the respective national funding organizations.
  • Each consortium submitting a proposal must involve a minimum of four eligible partners from four different countries with at least two countries from each region.

The Monsanto Fund is inviting applicants in order to improve the lives of farming communities around the world – as well as supporting the communities.

The Monsanto Fund accepts grant proposals for programs outside of the U.S. in the following areas:

  • Providing basic education support designed to improve education in farming communities around the world, including supporting schools, libraries, science centers, farmer training programs and academic programs that enrich or supplement school programs
  • Meeting critical needs in communities by supporting nonprofit organizations that help with things such as food security, sanitation, access to clean water, public safety and various other local needs.

Funding Information

The smallest grant will consider is US $25,000.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) is currently inviting applications for the fourth round of funding to support renewable energy projects in developing countries.

Thematic Areas

  • IRENA recommends projects based on:
    • technical merit
    • commercial viability
    • socio-economic and environmental benefits
  • To be shortlisted for further consideration, projects must be:
    • transformative
    • replicable / scalable
    • innovative
  • Projects must also:
    • Improve energy access

Eligibility Criteria

  • Projects should be submitted by Members of IRENA, Signatories of the Statute, or States in Accession which are developing countries included in the “DAC List of ODA Recipients” from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Preference will be given to project proposals submitted by IRENA Members.

Funding

ADFD funding is available as follows:

  • The total concessional loans committed per annual project selection cycle is approximately USD 50 million.
  • The concessional loan value for each project ranges from a minimum of USD 5 million to a maximum of USD 15 million.
  • The loan amount for each project covers up to 50 percent of the estimated total project cost.
  • Loan rates vary between 1 percent and 2 percent per annum, with duration of 20 years, including a grace period of 5 years. See website for details.
  • The project must demonstrate economic feasibility.
  • Loans are intended to cover as many recipients and regions as possible per application cycle.
  • There are no limits to the number of project proposals presented by each country, but applicant governments are advised to prioritise their proposals.

  • Prospective applicants must register to receive notification alerts about opening dates and deadlines for funding cycles.
  • When new funding cycle opens, the project coordinator can start the application process as follows:

Odyssée Artist -in Residency Program 2016: Supporting Artists, Researchers and Culture Professionals

The ACCR with the support of French Ministry of culture and communication is inviting applicants for Odyssée artist-in-residency program in order to support artists, researchers and professionals to develop projects within French Cultural Centers – Historic Monuments.

The Odyssée artist-in-residency program allows residents whose projects have been selected by a CCR (Centre Culturel de Rencontre), member of the French network, to receive 1200€ per month and the refunding of their travel fees (up to a determined level according to the citizen’s country). Residents stay free of charge, within the Centre that has accepted them.

Each year, the ACCR puts together a programme of technical and thematic meetings, designed to respond to the needs of members and to enable them to tackle together changes in the fields of culture and heritage, as well as legal and technological developments and economic trends.

EFN with funding from UPS Foundation launches Reforestation Grants

Education for Nature (EFN) has launched a special grant opportunity with the funding support of The UPS Foundation for supporting communities in regaining ecological integrity and enhancing human wellbeing in deforested or degraded forest landscapes through forest restoration.

EFN is looking for organizations that will use this workshop opportunity to connect corridors, create buffer zones, improve degraded lands, restore watersheds, and expand forest cover while also allowing local stakeholders to connect with nature and become a vested part of a larger conservation program.
